“The songs were recorded on an 8-track machine on 1-inch tape and there’s tons of bleed,” said Taylor. “Most of the songs were caught in the first or second take, even the ones that had never been heard by the musicians before that evening in the studio. We also wanted to record this album in an environment where you could hear the space. I think we captured these tunes the way they were intended to be heard.”

That “live” sound is something that was important to Taylor, and that raw charm is captured on Barfly, which is set for release with a street date of May 22, and a CD release party May 18 at The Family Wash in East Nashville. “I got together with some good friends, who also happen to be great musicians,” said Taylor. “And we made a record I’m really proud of.”

The son of a preacher, Taylor first got interested in songwriting when a Sunday school teacher gave him an old beater guitar and a stack of dusty Dylan records.
